Power Consumption Analysis

Using the extensive knowledge and experience gained from many years in designing MEP systems and the expertise from observing all types of equipment operation, Alpaca can provide insight as to how a facility utilizes its energy. If combined with the Building Efficiency Analysis, we can provide an Energy Profile and suggest opportunities for cutting energy costs.

    Building Efficiency Analysis

Completed in conjunction with the Power Consumption Analysis, or as a separate analysis, Alpaca can help determine the thermal characteristics of a building’s envelope. This analysis will look at the building construction for roof materials and insulation, wall materials and insulation, window glass, and infiltration. This information can help pinpoint where a building “costs” in energy consumption. An analysis can also be performed to compare an existing material in a proposed renovation to a higher efficiency material in order to forecast the possible energy savings that could be achieved. This information can assist in determining the best replacement materials—whether this is roofing, insulation, windows, etc.

    Equipment Performance Analysis

Also as part of the Power Consumption Analysis, or worked separately, Alpaca can determine if the existing equipment in a facility is performing to specification. Many times, good useful equipment is performing poorly due to lack of maintenance, un-wise modifications, or simply improperly applied use. And, similar to the Building Efficiency Analysis, comparisons of existing equipment can be made to new equipment to determine whether direct replacement is warranted, going with updated technology, or full replacement with totally different technology. Comparisons of first cost versus life-cycle cost can be made to help in making the right selection.
